We find it’s best to hang single artwork at eye level, and 60 inches from center to the floor is the magic number. If you ‘re hanging your art above furniture , it can be 4-6 inches above the piece. If the art is going above a sofa or console, the piece should be approximately 2/3 width of the furniture .
Artwork should be hung so that the center of the piece is approximately at eye level for an average height person. Hanging multiple pieces along the same wall is fine but they should be lined up at the same height. This rule also applies if you have two pieces of art hanging near a corner.
When hanging artwork, a general rule of thumb is that the centre of the image should be at eye-level. In rooms where people are usually sitting down – such as a living room or dining room – eye-level will be at a seated position so artwork should be hung a little lower.
When hanging something at an average eye level, position its center 57 to 60 inches from the floor. Use the following formula : Divide the height of the frame by two; from that number, subtract the distance from the top of the frame to the hanging hardware; add this number to 57, 58, 59, or 60.

Find the center point between them, and use the same 60-inch rule. For spacing between art on the same wall , “Generally, we’ll use two inches between larger pictures ,” says Kassel.
Aligning a Picture With the Center of the Wall Wrap a small lump of adhesive putty around the end of a length of string and press it firmly against the wall in the top-left corner. Stretch the string to the bottom-right corner of the wall and again secure it with a blob of adhesive putty.
How high, how low? As a general rule, the bottom of your frame should hang 8” to 10” above the back of the sofa . If you hang your artwork too high it will look like it’s floating away from the couch instead of being connected to it.

hold your pictures up on the wall to eyeball about how high you want them off the ground and between spaces on the wall . use a laser level to make an even line on your wall . use your painter’s tape to create an even line between the two points you just drew on the wall .
