Spray paint and latex silver paint are two safe and inexpensive ways to give a wooden object a cool silver sheen. Silver latex paint offers a rich, lustrous tone and long-lasting coverage, but it can be difficult to achieve an even application.
My personal favorite line of metallic paint is the Fusion Mineral Paint Metallics. They have the same great durability and eco-friendly properties as the regular Fusion paint, but with extra shine and shimmer .
To age new wood to a natural silvery gray, to grey-brown or black patina (depending on the wood ), let a small piece of steel wool (or a few non-galvanized nails) sit overnight in ordinary white vinegar, then dilute the vinegar solution 1 to 1 with water. (If you used 1/4 cup of vinegar, add 1/4 cup of water.)
For furniture it’s best to use a satin or semigloss finish in either a latex or an oil-based paint . Never leave primer unpainted. If you choose a latex paint , a latex primer is an excellent choice for most uses. It goes on easily and blocks most stains, but it doesn’t have the odor of an oil-based primer.

Tape craft paper over the entire surface to be protected, using low-adhesive painter’s tape. Spray the frame with metallic silver paint . Milk paint , which you can purchase as a powder or premixed, or even whip it up yourself at home, is a nontoxic and biodegradable paint option that’s great for use on wood furniture—and if you mix it with an equal part of bonding agent, you don’t need to sand the piece before beginning.
Because vinegar is acidic, it can corrode wood and stone, it can destroy wax, kill plants, and cause other damage . Hardwood floors – due to its acidic nature, vinegar can damage hardwood floor finishes, causing them to look dingy. Use either a cleaner specifically made for hardwood floors or a mix of soap and water.
A decorative paint known for its matte, chalky appearance, chalk paint is a popular choice for giving furniture and home decor a rustic, vintage, or shabby-chic style. Because it can easily be given a distressed look, chalk paint is ideal for those who want to add character and vintage charm to their home.
Although wall paint can be applied over wood surface, it is not an ideal choice. This means, you should not buy wall paint to use over wood furniture at any cost. But since the wall paint is not a suitable paint option for wooden surfaces you should completely avoid doing this.
When priming and painting , make sure to paint the inside edges where doors and drawers go. If you don’t do this then when you place the drawers or doors back on you will see a sliver of the inside wood and your efforts will not look professional.
