Our French Polishing Services
Touch Up & Minor Repair
This service covers everything from scratches and chips in furniture to heat marks, light and water damage, bruises and scuffs.
This is for pieces, which due to more severe damage, need a full resurface (strip and re-polish). Re-polishing is needed when a normal repair will not suffice. Use this when the old finish is badly damaged.
Clean & Revive
This service will be employed when the piece(s) in question, from age or simply daily wear and tear, need some life put back into them and the finish restored. A great service when you want the overall appearance of a place to look smarter. Chair legs, door frames, bottoms of doors get kicked, handrails lose the shine, furniture wears around the edges. Clean and revive will bring these items back to life.
A great choice if you want to keep your items but want to change the look. Items that are hard to replace or move like doors, handrails, kitchen units and floors are good examples of things that are far more expensive to replace than to change the colour (see our Advice & Info section for more ideas).
Full French Polish
This is for new and untreated timber, it covers a broad range of options and includes staining, sealing and finishing with French polish using traditional techniques and materials. See below for finishing options.
We can provide sample finishes on request. This will require you to send a wood sample to us, which we will finish then return. Please contact us for more information on this, if required.
All of the above services require some level of consultancy from us. We can also provide consultancy on the best finish to use and the most effective ways to achieve your required result. Applying a finish incorrectly can ruin a piece. Poor finishing has spoilt some of the most beautifully made wooden antiques. This is why it is so important to apply the finish correctly and understand how the finish will affect a piece in the long term.
From time to time we release a service product, which is a service with fixed pricing. We are currently offering a service on handrails with prices based on number of floors please click below link for full details
Our main finishing product is French polish but we also provide Lacquer, wax, oil and for outside work, varnish (see right hand list). French polish is our preferred choice but sometimes another finish is more appropriate, so we will use these when necessary. We will match like for like when restoring or repairing items so please let us know if there is a particular finish you require.
French polish, along with most of the above finishes can be taken to any sheen, from Matt through Satin, to Gloss.
